Chevra Kadisha - Taharah and Shmirah
This is an in-depth study of the work of the Chevra Kadisha in the activities of the Mitzvot of guarding the body of the deceased — Shmirah — and of ritually preparing the body for burial — Taharah. This is very much a how-to course as well as an examination of the liturgy and the unusual situations that can arise
The course looks at the impact of the work on the community and on the members of the Chevra Kadisha and provides a review of best practices. this is the course that best serves as an introductions to the actual hands-on tasks and activities of the traditional Chevra Kadisha.
This course is offered in the Winter of 2016, the Fall of 2017, the Winter of 2019 and the Fall of 2020.
This course will be offered in two sessions from January 5 - March 28
Morning/Midday sessions 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EST January 11- March 28
Evening sessions 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm EST January 5 - March 22.
