continuing Education: Spring 2018

Through a deeper exploration of themes and texts, we will expand horizons, open new doors, and grow beyond the confines of our past experience. Join us for a three-class continuing education opportunity, provided by the Gamliel Institute. These are offered every Spring and Fall, on a wide range of topics, and are taught online in a manner similar to the Gamliel Core Curriculum courses.

Our next three week session begins on Thursday, April 25th, 2018:

      Olam HaBa and The Zohar

What do we mean when we say Olam HaBa (The World to Come)?

Covenant Award recipient, Beth Huppin, will lead us in an exploration of Zohar texts about    various aspects of Olam HaBa:

April 25    A vision of entering Olam HaBa

May 2      The honored place for women in Olam HaBa

May 9      Olam HaBa is like a river – always flowing

      Space is Limited!

      Registration is OPEN at http://www.jewish-funerals.org/gamreg/

Choose ‘Continuing Education’ as the course.

A logon link will be sent to you upon receipt of payment.

Sessions will be recorded, and will be available to registered students.

Beth Huppin has enjoyed teaching children and adults of all ages in both formal and informal Jewish educational settings for many years.  She currently works at Jewish Family Service (JFS) of Seattle (http://www.jfsseattle.org) as the Director of Project Kavod, a Jewish educational program that focuses on the Jewish texts and values that inspire and guide the work of JFS.  She also teaches at Congregation Beth Shalom in Seattle. Beth is the recipient of a 2010 for excellence in Jewish education.

In addition to Graduate Courses, the Institute offers monthly Gamliel Café evenings in which all Gamliel students can enjoy a 20-minute learning followed by discussion and networking session.  These are offered on the third Thursday of each month, with the exception of a few months when there is a conflict (Jewish holidays, Kavod conference, etc.).  The Café is open to all previous and current Gamliel students at no charge.  There is no requirement to register, just show up!  The Zoom meeting number for these evenings is 451 556 6120.  They start at 5:00pm PST, 8:00pm EST, and last an hour or possibly a bit more if the discussion is juicy.

Gamliel Café topics for the first half of 2018 are as follows:

    • January 18th, Holly Blue Hawkins, Limmud Festival 2017

    • February 15th, Vickie and Linda Weitzenhofer, CK and the Generation Gap
